Happy New Mercy!

by Sharman J. Monroe

Happy New Year! I know it’s February but the year is still new and everybody feels fresh and new.  People make New Year’s resolutions to lose weight, make more money, get a new job, go back to school, etc., things designed to help make life better.  It’s great that you are seeing a brand new year and that you want to use the year to do something different, to make things better.  But as Christians we don’t have to wait for a new year to feel fresh and new.

1.Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.  2 Corinthians 5:17 (NKJV)

When we accepted Christ as our Lord and Savior, we became new people. The Holy Spirit comes to reside in us (1 Corinthians 1:6) and teach us to how to become Christ-like. The change is subtle but over time, there are just some things you don’t want to do or say anymore.  Happy New Person!

2.It is because of the Lord’s mercy and loving-kindness that we are not consumed, because His [tender] compassions fail not. They are new every morning; great and abundant is Your stability and faithfulness.  Lamentations 3: 22-23 (AMP)

Mercy is compassion shown to an offender. God shows us mercy because He doesn’t give us what we deserve for our sins which is death (Romans 6:23). God gives us new mercies every day. Happy New Mercy!

3. If we [freely] admit that we have sinned and confess our sins, He is faithful and just (true to His own nature and promises) and will forgive our sins [dismiss our lawlessness] and [continuously] cleanse us from all unrighteousness [everything not in conformity to His will in purpose, thought, and action].  1 John 1:9 (AMP)

Every time, not just when He is in the mood, every time we confess our sins to God, He forgives us. God wants us to confess our sins not because He doesn’t know them but so that we realize our actions were sinful in His eyes. God forgives and forgets everyday (Isaiah 43:25). Happy New Forgiveness!

I challenge you to wake up each morning and see yourself as fresh and new!  I challenge you to embrace each morning as a brand new start to your life!
